Kevin Gastonguay's Keys
Kevin Gastonguay is an active keyboardist/composer/arrangerteacher. He attended college at McNallySmith college of music for Piano Performance. While in college, his jazz combo won the Eau Claire Jazz Festival in ’08 and ’09 performing Kevin’s original compositions. In college he played with the group, The Power of Music, where he worked with Grammy award winning Andre Fischer and Craig Rice, former manager of Prince, Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston. He was also asked by the college to perform with Sheila E and Joe Lovano for their in house master-classes.
Kevin played piano for the Valley Fair stage band in the summer of 2007 covering mainly Earth Wind and Fire. In 2007-2008 his original jazz-fusion group Sol Spectre played huge music festivals such as Wakarusa Music Festival and 10,000 Lakes Music Festival. He played in the Sioux Falls Jazz Festival in 2009 and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival in 2010. He plays regularly at many of the great twin cities venues such as the Artist Quarter, The Dakota, and The Cabooze. He has played with internationally known musicians such as 90's R&B icon Alexander O'neal, Andres Prado of Peru, Andre Cymone (Prince), and Chris Berry (Panjea). He has also performed with some of the best musicians around the cities including Kevin Washington, Jay Young, Chance Howard (The Time), Sonny Thompson, Michael Bland, and many other Prince affiliates. He has also performed with American Idols Paris Bennett who finished in 5th place during the 5th season. In 2011 he played for an audience of over 10,000 opening for the Black Eyed Peas in Minot North Dakota. He plays piano at St. Gerard's Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park. His original music has also been played on Jazz 88 FM in the Twin Cities.
Kevin has taught piano lessons at Minnesota Valley Conservatory of Music since August of 2009, percussion lessons at Aspen Academy Charter School in Prior Lake since 2010, and Modern Day Music in South St. Paul since 2011.
